Background of the Study
Professional attire plays an essential role in shaping attitudes and behaviors in healthcare settings (Chinonso & Nwafor, 2024). For nursing students, adopting a professional dress code not only reflects the respect for their future profession but also influences their approach to patient care and interactions with colleagues. Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, offers nursing education in a clinical environment where students are required to wear professional uniforms. However, the impact of professional dress code on nursing students' attitudes towards their profession has not been extensively studied in the Nigerian context. This study will examine how adherence to a professional dress code influences nursing students’ attitudes and behavior towards their profession at the institution.

Statement of the Problem
Although professional dress codes are an essential aspect of nursing education, there is limited research on how these dress codes affect nursing students’ attitudes and behaviors, particularly in Nigerian teaching hospitals. At Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, students are required to wear standardized uniforms; however, the relationship between this dress code and students’ professional attitudes remains unclear. This study seeks to explore the effect of professional dress codes on nursing students' attitudes towards their profession.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the effect of professional dress code on nursing students' attitudes towards their profession at Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti.

2. To examine how adherence to a professional dress code influences nursing students’ professional behavior in clinical settings.

3. To explore nursing students' perceptions of the role of professional dress codes in shaping their attitudes towards nursing.

Research Questions

1. How does the professional dress code affect nursing students' attitudes towards their profession at Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti?

2. What is the relationship between adherence to a professional dress code and nursing students' professional behavior?

3. How do nursing students perceive the importance of professional dress codes in shaping their attitudes towards nursing?

Research Hypotheses

1. The professional dress code does not significantly affect nursing students' attitudes towards their profession at Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti.

2. There is no significant relationship between adherence to a professional dress code and nursing students' professional behavior.

3. Nursing students’ perceptions of professional dress codes do not significantly influence their attitudes towards nursing.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on nursing students at Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, who adhere to the institutional dress code. Limitations include the potential bias in students' self-reported attitudes and the variation in dress code enforcement across clinical settings.
